MEN OF PEACE
"I don't know how to save the world. I don't have the answers or The Answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all Earth's inhabitants, none of us will survive - nor will we deserve to." Leonard Peltier

Discrimination on the basis of sacrifice

Denial of reasonable accommodation, Right to Free Speech

Discrimination on the basis of sacrifice

The world has witnessed a lot of bizarre creativity on the part of Obama administration. One of the novelties imposed on us is the emergence of a brand new form of inequity: discrimination on the basis of sacrifice.

Neglectful and unfair treatment of American veterans is not only a disgrace, but a blatant abuse of their civil and human rights.

Labelling

The first rule of labelling strategy is “I don’t label, I care!” In everyday life a manipulator will combine “crazy making” with negative stereotyping to make you look bad and to persuade everyone that “it’s all for your own good”. On a larger scale, discriminatory categorization is equally passive aggressive and goes in pair with stigma communication. Overemphasis on “mental” is an example of communication involved in diffusing labels and enacting stigmatisation. If Barack Obama constantly addressed e.g. victims of violence worrying about their alleged mental problems we would talk about adding insult to injury. Post combat stress reactions should not be labelled as a “disorder” just like non –violent criticism of Barack Obama should not be called “Oppositional Defiance Disorder”.

Distinction

Veteran license plates? To avoid distinction and profiling, all citizens should display their military status e.g. “Refused to serve”, “Vietnam protestor working for VA”.

Denial of reasonable accommodation
If government can finance immigration and even splurge on shelters for illegal immigrants, how comes that housing for veterans is not affordable? Both “Denial of Reasonable Accommodation” and “Preference” are forms of unfavourable treatment known as discrimination. During his Nobel Lecture in the Oslo City Hall, 10 December 2009, Barack Hussain Obama said that United States of America must remain a standard bearer in the conduct of war. He stated:” That is why I prohibited torture. That is why I ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed. And that is why I have reaffirmed America’s commitment to abide by the Geneva Conventions.”

Meanwhile, thousands of homeless veterans experience acute physical and mental pain every day. They are no strangers to hunger, temperature extremes, stress positions, humiliation and danger.

The right to free speech

When General Martin Dempsey expressed his “disappointment” with veterans who dare to have and to express their opinion about actions of present government, he seemed oblivious to the fact that veterans have the right to free speech. It’s perfectly hypocrite to state that “People don’t want us to be another special interest group” when government treats veterans as “usual suspects”, tampers with their civil and human rights and insults them with operations such as “Vigilant Eagle”. It’s the government, and not “people” who seem to have a problem with veterans honesty.

Barack Obama announced that: “We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world — including in my own country.” He also stated: “As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam.”

We can learn from every American or European history book that our soldiers were liberating concentration camps, rushing to the aid of people suffering from natural disasters, perishing on foreign battlefields. Those who survived are veterans now, not toy soldiers that once used can be stored in a drawer. And we know civilization’s debt to our soldiers and veterans. We will convey our deep appreciation for our veterans who has done so much over the centuries to shape the world and to defend our country.
