Planting Kisses, dancing with turnips: The surrealism of Obama’s Ebola

Planting Kisses, dancing with turnips:

The surrealism of Obama’s Ebola

If President Barack Obama were a rank-and-file reporter rather than the imperial head honcho overseeing the mainstream media of the day, he’d long ago have been pink-slipped for not recognizing the who, what, where, why, when of that industry that used to validly be called ‘The News’.

...”The chances of an Ebola outbreak here in the United States are extremely low”-President Barack Obama, September 16 in a speech in Atlanta.

Less than one month later, Obama’s predictions were proven fatally wrong.

Within days of this extremely low chances of an Ebola outbreak in America prediction, several Americans have been diagnosed with the virus with innumerable more potentially exposed to it.

“...The key thing to understand about this disease is these protocols work,” -Barack Obama on Oct. 15, 2014, in referring to the government’s strategy of identifying, isolating and then monitoring the contacts of people sick with the disease. “We know that because they’ve been used for decades now.” (Huffington Post, Oct. 15, 2014)http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/15/obama-ebola-nurses-atlanta_n_5990584.html

Protocols that work and have been used for decades now?

Ebola didn’t come to the United States of America decades ago.  It came when the late Thomas Eric Duncan brought it from Liberia to Dallas on Sept. 20, 2014.

Yesterday it became public knowledge through the media that one individual who has contracted the virus from Duncan flew to Ohio through the Cleveland airport in the last few days.

Nor do we know how many among the thousands of illegals crossing the southern border with infectious diseases are Ebola carriers.

“Concern about the protocols has mounted since two nurses in Dallas became sick after caring for the late Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person to be diagnosed with the disease in the United States. Earlier on Wednesday the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the second nurse who became infected had violated protocol by traveling aboard a commercial flight the day before she started having symptoms. (Huffington Post)

Interesting that Obama, for the first time, did not attend a fundraiser in order to meet with his top cabinet secretaries at the White House to bring them up to snuff on Ebola.

“President Obama didn’t travel to New Jersey and Connecticut yesterday as he had planned.  There he was going to raise money for Democrats up for reelection in November. Instead, Obama hosted Cabinet members for a meeting on Ebola.

White House aide Dan Pfeiffer tweets: “Later this afternoon, POTUS will convene a meeting at the White House of cabinet agencies coordinating the government’s Ebola response.” (Weekly Standard, Oct. 15, 2014)http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-hold-ebola-meeting-cabinet_816326.html

The AP also reported the news: “White House: Obama cancels Wednesday trip to NJ, Conn, holding Ebola meeting with Cabinet.”

Yet, when Obama did not attend a scheduled fundraising event for the first time yesterday to meet with his cabinet to address the Ebola virus, he did not impose a temporary ban on travel to the United States from countries where the virus has reached epidemic levels, thus leaving his own citizens vulnerable to air travel systems with no protections or safeguards against a virus the World Health Organization says will claim one million lives by this January.

It gets more surrealistic by the day.

“You can’t,” as CFP commenters like to say, “make this stuff up”.

While Obama made a speech claiming to have America’s back covered against the rampaging virus, via decades-long, tried-and-true protocols, his wife was going viral over the Internet—dancing with a turnip.

Two nurses are ill with Ebola in the U.S.; thousands are losing their lives to the dread virus abroad,  and Michelle Obama makes a show of herself dancing with a turnip?

Little did we know last month that when Barack Obama visited Emory University Hospital in Atlanta,  he planted kisses, shook the hands and hugged a couple of the nurses. Not the doctors, mind you, only the nurses.  Good news to hold back for a month when testimony for your bravado is needed.

“Obama said he had no fear of catching Ebola last month when he visited Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where doctors successfully treated three Americans who’d been infected in Africa.(Huffington Post)

“I shook hands with, hugged, and kissed, not the doctors, but a couple of the nurses at Emory because of the valiant work that they did,” Obama said. “In treating one of the patients, they followed the protocols, they knew what they were doing, and I felt perfectly safe doing so.”

National Nurses United, the nation’s largest nurses union, claimed in a Tuesday press conference that such protocols weren’t in place at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas when Duncan arrived in September. The Centers for Disease Control acknowledged Wednesday that the sick nurses may have contracted Ebola by caring for Duncan without wearing the right protective gear, but the agency said it had redoubled its efforts to ensure health care workers have the right equipment and training.

“If we do these protocols properly, follow the steps, get the information out, then the likelihood of widespread Ebola outbreak in this country are very, very low,” Obama said.

“But, I think what we’ve all learned over the last several weeks is that folks here in this country and a lot of nonspecialized hospitals and clinics don’t have that much experience dealing with these issues, and so we’re going to have to push out this information as aggressively as possible and that’s the instructions I’ve provided to my team.”

While Ebola has sickened more than 8,000 people in West Africa, the two Texas nurses are the only people diagnosed with Ebola so far who have contracted the disease in the U.S.”

How in the name of all that’s holy would “folks here in this country and a lot of nonspecialized hospitals and clinics have that much experience dealing with these issues,” when Ebola has never come to America before?

Unbridled surrealism from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) tops even Obama’s planting kisses and Michelle’s turnip dancing in the midst of a potential virus pandemic.
The Center for Disease Control under Obama’s watch states that if West Africans can’t fly to America, “that would cause the disease to grow in that area and spill over into other countries.”

“Sounds like the CDC wants those infected with Ebola where the disease is pandemic to come and infect Americans. (Ann Coulter, Oct. 15, 2014)http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2014-10-15.html#read_more

While the disease continues to spread in three African countries, galloping unease is spreading over the fruited plains.

So far most germane details released by the CDC have proven to be false.

“They said you’d basically have to roll in an infected person’s vomit to catch the disease.  Then, nurses at two first-world hospitals in Span and the U.S. contracted Ebola from patients. (Coulter)

“The government told us that national quarantines won’t work, but then they quarantine everyone with Ebola—or who has been near someone with Ebola, such as an entire NBC crew. To me, this suggests that there’s some value in keeping people who have been near Ebola away from people who have not.

“At the moment, more than 13,000 West Africans have travel visas to come to the U.S. Having just seen an Ebola-infected Liberian get $500,000 worth of free medical treatment in the U.S., the first thing any African who might have Ebola should do is get himself to America.”

Surrealism from the other side of the House:

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) yesterday issued the following statement on the growing Ebola crisis:

“Numerous committees – including the House Armed Services Committee and the Committees on Appropriations, Homeland Security, Energy & Commerce, and Transportation & Infrastructure – are actively assessing the administration’s response, and hearings have already begun.  The Homeland Security Committee held a hearing in Dallas to examine the federal, state, and local response thus far.  Tomorrow, the Energy & Commerce Committee will hear from the CDC and NIH to look into their response to the crisis.  These oversight efforts will continue, and the House stands ready to act if it becomes clear legislation is needed to ensure the threat is countered aggressively and effectively.

“The administration must be able to assure Americans that we will stop the spread here at home.  We will continue to press the administration for better information about what steps will be taken to protect the American people, including our troops, from this deadly virus.  And we will work with the administration on appropriate policy options that will help stop the spread of this horrific disease both here in the United States and around the globe.”

But numerous committees and local hearings to probe the local response to Ebola thus far will accomplish diddley-squat to keep Ebola, or any other pandemic, at bay.

“It is also imperative we ensure that federal, state and local agencies, along with our public health infrastructure, are prepared, remain vigilant, and follow proper protocols to identify the virus and take appropriate measures for those who have been exposed to it,” said Boehner.

There are those super duper ‘protocols’ again.  We already saw how the CDC protocols worked out. How will protocols identify the virus so that appropriate measures for those who have been exposed to it can be helped?

Boehner is as far behind in the Ebola spread as Obama is.

The Ebola horse is already out of the barn and it’s now racing across open American pastures, its saddle emblazoned with the words,  POLITICALLY CORRECT.
