FORMER MARINE BATTLES BACK AGAINST PTSD



This Marine veteran tells a recognizable story for those who have experienced battlefield trauma.

If you are someone who is experiencing difficulties trying to get back from the wars, if you have been wondering how to deal with the after effects, or if there is anything that could help, listen to this young Marine as he details all of his own recovery through the care and treatment he finally agreed to get, and how much better he feels today. The same can happen for you.

Each time I put one of these videos up, I do so because I want those who are still struggling with PTSD issues to see from their peers that recovery is richly possible. I hope, too, that if some of you who read these articles and see the visuals on this site, who might know someone struggling with PTSD, that you might share these with him or her. Encourage them to seek help. Too many of our younger veterans who are coming home with these issues are not, and we are unfortunately seeing a rise in the suicide rates among these men and women.

It is true; suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. We need to let our returning veterans know that real help is there, that they can come to understand what is wrong and learn how to deal with it healthily. They are not alone. They can live happier lives.

There is help. That help is experienced, compassionate, and dedicated to serving the needs of each of our veterans. The VA, in particular, is ready, willing and able to serve those who have served. There are other organizations that are there too, like Wounded Warriors.

Those of you who are combat veterans, know what courage is. It is the willingness to confront the unknown, even in the face of your own mortality. Use that same courage here. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Ask yourself: If there was anything, any possibility, that I could get out of this craziness that I’m experiencing, what’s keeping me from seeking it out and taking back my life? Take the opportunity to seek the help that is out there, my friends. You can find the happiness you seek and it will make all the difference for you and for those whom you love. Go for it!
