Marx or Moses, The Time to Decide is Now
America’s Real Crisis: The Question of Who, or What—is our Authority
Underneath the maelstrom of America’s political crisis is a question that demands an answer. The question: What is America’s ultimate source of authority? Have we finally begun to evolve into humanism, as leftists claim—after centuries of ignorant, bigoted and sexist Bible fixation?
Or, can our historical beliefs be preserved in the face of a godless onslaught? Must the US now walk into an atheist worldview, complete with matching societal and political implications? The identity of American authority is the question of the age. And our answer will certainly decide the fate of America.
The battle between belief systems is as old as Israel battling the Philistines, and as recent as the West versus militant Islam. In fact, every true battle may have a spiritual core. This is in fact what Lord Horatio Nelson believed when he took on Napoleon’s plan for world domination, which would have created godless global tyranny, had Bonaparte succeeded.
It is fortunate the absurd poseur Barack overplayed his hand on the horribly malformed Affordable Healthcare Act. Watching Obamacare unveiled, finding each function ill-designed, broken or non-existent—we have a miracle of incompetence. And yet, seen historically, failure and incompetence are not the exception, but the rule in Marxist kingdoms. The spectacular failures of Lenin, Stalin and Mao instruct us the methods and goals of this ideology are not just mistaken, but impossible, and dangerous to the nth degree. Let us hope America fights off the toxic fumes of socialism and returns to our First Love before it’s too late.
I. Failure of American Authority: Biblical or Humanistic?
America is presently confused as to the definition of truth, or its source. This is obvious at the increasing popularity of gay marriage by supposed Christians, as well as support for the forceful confiscation and redistribution of property by presumed Constitution advocates. Yet, America was once a biblical culture, and probably expressed its biblical beliefs as well as any in history. For example, the liberties promised by Jesus in the Bible… “Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free” (John 8:32)http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+8%3A32 were expressed and defended in the Constitution. The crowning achievement of the Founders was the First Amendment’s tripartite defense of Speech, Religion and the Press.
Scholar Donald Lutz, in The Origins of American Constitutionalism, noted the Constitution itself was based upon the covenant-styled colonial documents employed by colonists arriving on these shores. Colonial America was a biblically based society, defined by Calvinist principles, according to David. A. Weir, in Early New England, A Covenanted Society. Weir stated he “systematically examined the formation of every civil and religious institution founded in New England before 1708.” Add to this fact that the defense of Free Speech and the logically related Free Press was initially offered by such stalwart Puritans as John Milton. He articulated that Free Speech was less dangerous than suppression of potential truth in his groundbreaking Areopagatica, where he passionately wrote:http://www.stlawrenceinstitute.org/vol14mit.html
Why freedom is necessary
Where there is much desire to learn, there of necessity will be much arguing, much writing, many opinions; for opinion in good men is but knowledge in the making. Under these fantastic terrors of sect and schism, we wrong the earnest and zealous thirst after knowledge and understanding which God hath stirred up in this city. What some lament of, we rather should rejoice at, should rather praise this pious forwardness among men, to reassume the illdeputed care of their religion into their own hands again. A little generous prudence, a little forbearance of one another, and some grain of charity might win all these diligences to join and unite in one general and brotherly search after truth, could we but forego this prelatical tradition of crowding free consciences and Christian liberties into canons and precepts of men.
Regarding Freedom of Religion,
it was John Locke who helped augur in liberty, when he wrote A Letter on Toleration.http://www.constitution.org/jl/tolerati.htm Locke, arguably the most influential philosopher of the modern age, was also perhaps the most influential thinker for the Founders. For example, Thomas Jefferson liberally quoted Locke in his masterwork, the Declaration of Independence. Locke writes,
For, there being but one truth, one way to heaven; what hopes is there that more men would be led into it, if they had no other rule to follow but the religion of the court, and were put under a necessity to quit the light of their own reason, to oppose the dictates of their own consciences, and blindly to resign up themselves to the will of their governors, and to the religion which either ignorance, ambition, or superstition had chanced to establish in the countries where they were born? ...Truth seldom has received, and I fear never will receive, much assistance from the power of great men, to whom she is but rarely known, and more rarely welcome. She is not taught by laws, nor has she any need of force to procure her entrance into the minds of men. Errours indeed prevail by the assistance of foreign and borrowed succours. But if truth makes not her way into the understanding by her own light, she will be but the weaker for any borrowed force violence can add to her.
It is ironic that Marx’s Communist Manifesto is now plying for the American soul, as we once almost exclusively self-identified in Biblical terms; the Bible being America’s DNA. According to Sacvan Bercovitch, in his The Puritan Origins of the American Self, Puritanism is at the heart of our identity. The exemplar American was early set out as John Winthrop, governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. America is the “city on the hill,” and the Puritans “conceived of the American paradise as the fulfillment of scripture prophecy.” Preeminent early American minister Cotton Mather wrote his Magnalia Christi Americana (1702),http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/pds/amerbegin/permanence/text3/MatherNewEngland.pdf proclaiming: “I WRITE the Wonders of the CHRISTIAN RELIGION, flying from the Deprivation of Europe, to the American Strand.” Bercovitch cites Cotton Mather’s biography of Winthrop, “Nehemias Americanus.” Here is the opening section of Mather’s work:http://xroads.virginia.edu/~drbr/cotton1.html
Nehemias Americanus
THE LIFE OF JOHN WINTHROP, ESQ., GOVERNOR OF THE MASSACHUSETTS COLONY.
Quicungue venti erunt, Ars nostra certe non aberit. -Cicero.
1. LET Greece boast of her patient Lycurgus, the lawgiver, by whom diligence, temperance, fortitude and wit were made the fashions of a therefore long-lasting and renowned commonwealth: let Rome tell of her devout Numa, the lawgiver, by whom the most famous commonwealth saw peace triumphing over extinguished war and cruel plunders; and murders giving place to the more mollifying exercises of his religion. Our New-England shall tell and boast of her WINTHROP, a lawgiver as patient as Lycurgus, but not admitting any of his criminal disorders; as devout as Numa, but not liable to any of his heathenish madnesses; a governor in whom the excellencies of Christianity made a most improving addition unto the virtues, wherein even without those he would have made a parallel for the great men of Greece, or of Rome, which the pen of a Plutarch has eternize.
II. The Authority of Karl Marx
It is almost incredible to report Karl Marx’s liberal ideas are making inroads in the greatest capitalist country. Even more stunning is America’s leader appears enchanted with socialist policy, such as nationalizing industries, increasing taxation, expanding government authority, and wildly enlarging spending, via printing of currency and international loans. In fact, one magazine reports, Ex-Marxist Calls out Obama as ‘Communist.http://www.wnd.com/2013/11/is-obama-leading-america-into-communism/’ And Forbes magazine published: President Obama’s Marxist-Leninist Economics: Fact And Fiction, stating,http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhendrickson/2012/07/26/president-obamas-marxist-leninist-economics-fact-and-fiction/
President Obama has emulated Lenin in striving to increase state control over such “commanding heights” of our economy as energy, health care, finance, and education, with smaller forays into food, transportation and undoubtedly others. Besides mimicking some of Lenin’s policy strategies, Obama also has adopted Karl Marx’s strategies for gradually socializing an economy.

Obama seems to always advocate for the ideas of Karl Marx
Clearly Barack is no classic American president, one who generally favors small government, or a robustly growing economy. Instead, from his seeming reluctance to praise America overseas, or his apparent identification and defense of Islam, or his work redistributing wealth, Obama seems to always advocate for the ideas of Karl Marx.
From where comes the remarkable claim that Karl Marx should have authority over mankind, America, our economics, politics, government—and even religion? Atheists, agnostic and all progressives find him irresistible as his system is not just irreligious, by virulently anti-God. Marx wrote, “Religion is only the illusory sun around which man revolves, until he begins to revolve around himself.” After this, human society was just the realm where influential men put their imprint by virtue of their will.
Marx, like many socialist and communist revolutionaries, was fascinated by Satan. He was obsessed with violence and apocalyptic punishments visited upon mankind. In one poem, Marx casts himself as God, and says “I shall howl gigantic curses at mankind.”
Paul Johnson, in Intellectuals, describes Marx as a kind of anti-religious rabbi. Marx was also a disagreeable fellow, a natural rebel, a revolutionary and a brawler, and created much hardship for his family being banned and ejected from many places. Not talented enough to get a university position, Marx became a journalist, before being kicked out of Germany, then France before settling in London.
The anti-Semitic Marx, who spoke disparagingly of both Blacks and Jews, wrote he felt the world was bastardized by Jewish greed, who infected the globe with the love of money—their god. Ironically, despite his diatribes against rich Jews, Marx himself was Jewish on both sides, and perpetually broke. He described capitalism as “hucksterism.” In On the Jewish Question he wrote,http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1844/jewish-question/
Money is the jealous god of Israel, beside which no other god may exist. Money abases all the gods of mankind and changes them into commodities. Money is the self-sufficient value of all things. It has, therefore, deprived the whole world, both the human world and Nature, of their own proper value. Money is the alienated essence of man’s work and existence: this essence dominates him and he worships it. The god of the Jews has been secularized and has become the god of the world.
Sadly, the impact of Marx’s ideas on every front has been unmitigated disaster. Western youths and credulous souls are permanently despoiled of the ability to think critically by downloading Marxism into their DNA. This explains why so many smug journalists, doctrinaire academics, hectoring politicians, and angry entertainers voice the simplistic doctrines of Marxism, like so many mindless lambs, running their legs while bleating in their sleep.
The effect on societies by Marxism has been nothing short of catastrophic
. Between ruined economies, and hassled residents never given the chance to experience God-given freedoms, are the extraordinary statistics of murder by government. According to U of Hawaii’s Prof Rummel, between communist Russia and China, 138,000,000 innocent persons were murdered.http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM
But, setting aside Marxism’s uncanny penchant for mayhem—Why would any sane, rational or thinking person want to repeat the failed experiments of the 19th century? While all socialist countries exist in a death-spiral, where GDP growth does not match spending, some claim a nothern exception. But the Brussels Journal trashes this notion, in The Myth of the Scandinavian Model. F. A. Hayek’s The Fatal Conceit:http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/510 The Errors of Socialism, explains why even the ideas behind socialism are illogical and immoral, “...The dispute between the market order and socialism is no less than a matter of survival. To follow socialist morality would destroy much of present humankind and impoverish much of the rest.” Therefore, this style of economics cannot work in the real world. An illustration of another Scandinavian socialist model: Norway’s shame: How a nation squandered its oil riches.http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/dec/25/vitenberg-norways-mythical-oil-wealth/
But we must ask, once again—where does the bizarre and highly destructive theory that Marx has any authority, come from? Only the intellectually lazy and morally indifferent could give credence to such a shallow and counterintuitive ideology. We must set aside Marxism after noting that, in every important way, Marxism represents the failure and dull cupidity of the antiauthoritarian—the rebel against God’s order.
III. Re-Establishment of Order
If America is to continue on as a place of enlightenment, both in liberty and the defense of others, we must re-order our commitment to authority. So we must ask, is today’s trendy Marxism a fit authoritarian model? All signs say no. Marx himself was anti-authoritarian. His ideas created chaos, destruction and overall misery. But can America’s traditional sense of authority, once based upon the Bible, really be accepted back as the primary locus of law and morality?
Former Marxist, Prof. Alasdair MacIntyre claims, having examined the world’s belief systems, that the biblical tradition represents the best life for all persons, as expressed in virtue oriented communities. This is the history of the West, which created the most prosperous, artistically expressive, free and influential cultures. Yet, today this legacy of success suddenly looks very frail indeed in contrast with the dishonest, inefficient, illogical and murderous record of all socialist movements.
Mad philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche caused crisis by noting since there were many rival theories on truth, the group with the strongest will was justified in ruling. This was his Will to Power. This is what America has become, a land where people strive to assert their power, oblivious to whether their actions are right, their ideas good, or the effects injurious to others. Not caring whether America falls, such is their greed, arrogance, and hatred of the good. These are the followers of Marx.https://archive.org/details/TheWillToPower-Nietzsche
Instead, we must demand a return to the principles and actions of our enlightened forebears. It was these that created America the Great, and it is these, plus the favor of the Almighty, which will help return the US to a healthy, free and prosperous state.
