Meanwhile, let´s wish to the soon to be ex- rulers, what they had already wished for us: May you live in interesting times
The Code of Dishonor
If true warriors have an honorable creed, it´s fair to say that politicians live more and more by their own Code of Dishonor. As if it wasn’t bad enough that “lie, cheat and steal” have constituted basic rules of self-serving careerists for ages, the dangerous phenomenon is growing steadily. The torturous years of “fundamental transformation” will be remembered for the multiple mutations of abuse of power, corruption and dereliction of duty.
Creed of Greed
Even if many politicians could use their programs as a winning argument in an insanity plea, greed is still holding the number one position in the Code of Dishonor.
In psychology, greed is seen as an addiction with a narcissistic twist: a constant, ruthless quest for a higher dose of wealth. In politics, the psycho-pathology usually goes in union with a power trip. Afterwards, holding a position of authority and sustaining affluence turn into clauses of “an insurance policy” against accountability for the former fraudulent activities.
Self, not Country
American Navy motto “Non sibi sed patriae”: Not Self, but Country stands in sharp contrast with the political etiquette we’ve witnessed over the last decade. The governing elite has been wearing the pink glasses of delusion for long enough to view the taxpayers´ money as their own bank account. Self-interest goes first in each and every way, turning the country’s territory into a private, badly neglected yard, decorated with a myriad of farcical, oligarchic gnomes.
No worse friend, no better enemy
1st Marine Division says: “No Better Friend, no Worse Enemy”; One glance at the official and unofficial politically correct “bestest friends” and a brief assessment of permissivism towards the enemy is enough to understand this point of the Code of Dishonor. In addition, constant preoccupation with squeezing the domestic lemon to finance e.g. billions worth of dental care for refugees makes you want to quote Ronald Reagan: “It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”
Anti –Veteran Affairs
The stubborn facts such as the number of homeless, wronged and “dead while waiting” Veterans prove that disgusting treatment stems from a source more sinister than a simple frustration of a politician who will never look good in A-2 flight jacket. Secretary McDonald who graduated from West Point once swore to live by: “A Cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.” Nowadays the VA secretary is a fierce advocate for the most disgraceful of VA’s “unfireable” desk-jockeys, but won´t intervene when VA police drag our Army and Marine Veterans to court for the “crime” of hanging an American flag (“a placard”) on the VA’s wall. Let’s hope nobody gets arrested for placing “the placard” on the grounds of a VA clinic in New Jersey, in the very place where our Veteran has recently died by self-immolation.
Isn’t it ironic that a department created to serve people of honor seems to follow the Code of Dishonor? As rightly observed by an 18 century writer, HonorĂ© de Balzac: “The careerists are like monkeys which have the agility: when they’re climbing you can admire their dexterity, but once on the top, you see only their behind.”
Only the lie can keep you free
No matter how arrogant, those who follow the tenets of the Code of Dishonor live in constant fear of disclosure synonymous with accountability.
We are at the historic crossroads where elections mean more than ever choosing between sustaining the lie that oppresses us and the truth that can set us free. Meanwhile, let´s wish to the soon to be ex- rulers, what they had already wished for us: May you live in interesting times.
