If the founders could see the leader we have, and how vulnerable to collapse we are at present, they would weep
Not All The Bad Guys Are Behind Bars
A while back I was invited to tour a newly opened maximum-security prison. My host, an upper echelon officer of the state’s Department of Corrections, drove me to the big gate at the multi-facility prison grounds. Along the way were a half-dozen subsequent checkpoints with mirrored, bulletproof windows that housed the vaguely-silhouetted guards who monitored dozens of cameras. At the huge, brick and concrete ‘New Max’, we walked among twenty-foot-high cyclone and barbed-wire walls topped with concertina wire.
The building’s massive iron door reminded me of a bank vault. The locks surrounding it clunked loudly before another motor opened that. Inside a final security chamber we stood momentarily while the warden signed a clipboard for one of the guards manning a control panel that looked like NASA ground control. In that moment I muttered to my friend, “Man, there must be some really bad people in here!” Looking straight ahead at the warden, he quietly returned, “Well, nobody’s in here for traffic tickets .... But you know what’s even more impressive to me when I look at all this?” I shrugged and shook my head. The thirty-five-year law enforcement veteran looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Most of the really bad ones are still running around loose on the outside. The folks in here were just slow or sloppy enough to get caught.”
So many live in a void lacking even the most basic knowledge of history and sound logic
Just a few weeks back, I watched an interview with an angry young man standing on an American flag. He was one of a group protesting a Donald Trump rally at a high school. As he explained himself to the interviewer, he would occasionally shout back to a passing critic, “F**K THIS FLAG! F**K YOU!!” Then he would resume his fit: “The whole thing about the Constitution or the flag give us our rights (sic), people fighting overseas gives us our rights. We are humans before we are Americans! America is on earth! We have human rights! I have a human rights (sic) before any Constitution, to do certain things. Now people want to abide by structuring law? That’s up to them. That’s totally fine! I don’t remember coming out of the womb and signing no contract saying I agree to every law America put out.” He went on to declare that the American flag is the new swastika.
Though most of conservative America doesn’t seem aware of it, his opinion is now quite typical of millennials. So many live in a void lacking even the most basic knowledge of history and sound logic. The young, emerging, new hope of America generally believes our freedoms came with the real estate. So many are ignorant of the blood, sweat and tears invariably a part of securing our God-given (‘inalienable’) rights. Slavery wasn’t invented by God or by white people. Fallen mankind had that fully up and running by the time Noah built the ark. It was God who recognized that the seriousness of our sickness would require an antidote as strong as only the death of His Son could provide.
It was my generation - we hippies - who started tearing the heart out of our country. We did it then primarily because it was fun - and pot and free sex were part of the reward for our mindless insurrection. As Abbie Hoffman put it, sometime before he killed himself, “Revolution For The Hell Of It!” In the 60s our prosperous nation was far from faultless - but on the mend. But the kids - I was one of them - needed a new frontier to conquer while their American dream-chasing parents fell asleep in front of the TV. The music industry seized the opportunity to market the new rock/ballad music in the guise of cutting-edge social statements heralding the dawning of the New Age. And, just like a bunch of stupid kids, a lot of us bought it all. And the trap was set.
America has been in a free fall ever since we began valuing our pleasures more than the hard-earned liberty
The true disciples of Marx saw all that and simple parties like Woodstock as an easy avenue by which the thriving baby of a barely 200-year-old America could be tossed out with the bathwater. The brains/morality that my generation scarcely inherited from our enabling parents were from then on replaced with whatever the new babysitter, cable TV, injected into the minds of our progeny. Do you disagree with that? Am I oversimplifying? What do you suppose fashioned the mindset of the ‘rocket scientists’ who made Jerry Springer, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Stern and ‘The View’, heroes and billion-dollar institutions? Godly parenting didn’t do it. America has been in a free fall ever since we began valuing our pleasures more than the hard-earned liberty that allowed us the choice of our deceivingly insular lifestyle.
And now the ruinous result of all that indulgence has sprouted enough to accommodate a seditious president, his wife and administration a full eight years in nurturing anti-American sentiment and black/white race hatred. My prison tour experience is just a tiny glimpse/reminder of our packed prison system that is now overflowing with really bad people. And it warrants our full attention because most of mall-walking 21st century America behaves as though none of that exists. As my host on that visit pointed out, most of the bad people today are not under lock and key. And that cancer has metastasized, getting sharper and faster at doing evil - now with the help of lightspeed computers. Outspoken Milwaukee, BLACK, DEMOCRAT, Sheriff and straight-shooting superhero, David A. Clarke, is part of an expanding chorus of people we should be listening to. Just last week he fearlessly identified our “straight-up cop hater” president and his “race-obsessed Attorney General” and her “henchmen”. The big media said little about that - and precious few Americans seem to be much concerned.
At his recent graduation speech at Rutgers University, Obama actually told gullible listeners that America needs to drop its drawbridge and allow the world to come inside. He inferred that to return to commonsense and caution is an outdated impediment to our staying up with the trending world. Of course he didn’t mention that every other nation has tightened its borders, especially after the hard lessons an emerging Islamic presence has taught the silly politically correct around the world. And with a straight face, he told people that life is better today than it was in the “good old days”. He can say that by using judiciously edited half-truths before a group of people - most Americans - who still embrace the idea that our president would never knowingly lie. He’s lied and broken all sorts of laws with impunity.
If the founders could see the leader we have, and how vulnerable to collapse we are at present, they would weep.
A lot of conservative America now leans heavily on Donald Trump to save what’s left of our ailing nation. Nevertheless, outside of the Grace of God, the fight now is purely down to numbers. We have only just tasted mob rule happening through the ballot box. When there are enough voters who believe our flag is evil, and those who want to preserve traditional America are racist antiques, the most airtight arguments any candidate can present will fall on deaf ears. God warned how in the closing moments of this planet, the hearts of people would wax cold. (Matthew 24:12) We are there. He warned that the day would come when evil is called good, and good, evil. (2Timothy 4:3, Isaiah 5:20) We are there. And although it might be a a start, it will take a lot more than a determined Donald Trump to turn this ship around.
As He has made known every day since hundreds of years before the time of Christ, God’s offer to save a Godly nation still stands: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Get to the polls and vote, by all means. But now more than ever before, we need to be on our knees.
