America’s 2nd Patriotic Revolution
I will only do what is right for our country, which I love.—President-Elect Donald J. Trump “Crippled America” (p. 90)
Do you not think an Angel rides in the Whirlwind and directs this Storm? —John Page (1743-1808) Letter to Thomas Jefferson, 1776
Do you not think an Angel rides in the Whirlwind and directs this Storm? —John Page (1743-1808) Letter to Thomas Jefferson, 1776
I fully expect sporadic spasms of the globalist movement’s death throes to continue inflicting posthumous damage for some time. Yet, like John Page during the 1st American Revolution I sense the Divine Hand of Providence in Trump’s election as POTUS, and share Page’s feeling that an angel rides the whirlwind and directs this storm. It is through God’s grace that “we the people” have prevailed thus far.
I agree with Henry David Thoreau’s maxim “That government is best which governs least,” and given humanity’s current level of spiritual/mental/emotional maturity (perhaps immaturity would be the better word) I shudder at the thought of a global government ruled by an arrogant elite. It would be a decadent hedonistic utopia for the ruling class and a dreary Draconian purgatory for the rest of us.
Contrary to what progressive globalists have been peddling for decades, the time for nation-states, countries, is not over. Indeed, patriotism for one’s country is about to experience a renaissance, a resurgence, a revival. This will occur not just in the United States but around the globe.
“We the people” may not all be informed about Gramsci and Lukacs, the “Frankfurt School,” political correctness, and the host of other teachings and teachers opposed to freedom, free speech, and patriotism, but we know when we are being lied to, ignored, and ripped off. We know that when we are called deplorable, irredeemable, and bitter clingers that we are correct in assuming that the political class holds us in contempt.
We know that the Democratic Party, which used to identify with and support America’s working men and women, has morphed into a party aligned with wealthy donors, celebrities, Wall Street, and corporate fat cats. We know that the Republican establishment is joined at the hip with their fellow Democratic political elites and that “we the people” have been left to twist in the wind while our “representatives” line their pockets.
We know that we love America but distrust our government, our media, and our politicians. A distrust that has been well and truly earned many times over. As Mark Twain said, “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” “We the people” have staged a peaceful (so far) revolution against a government that we no longer respect – because it no longer respects us – because it no longer deserves respect.
America’s middle class – historically the backbone of the United States – has come through yet again, and I could not be prouder of “we the people.” It was the grit, determination, and unapologetic patriotism of America’s much maligned and mistreated middle class that allowed candidate Trump to become President-elect Trump. That being said, I give God the glory, for without the Hand of Divine Providence I believe that “we the people” were condemned to follow the regressive progressive road to serfdom (to borrow Hayak’s phrase).
“We the people” ignored the polls, pundits, and propaganda – saw through the smoke ‘n’ mirrors razzle-dazzle and elected a man who despises political bulls—t as much as we do, is angered by the rampant corruption as much as we are, and loves America as only a true patriot can. Viva la revolucion!
