When the US Government uses violence to solve its problems it teaches others to do the same
If gun violence is related to mental health then the US government is made up of criminally violent sociopaths who belong in prison.
If you lived in a house with a man who – all day every day – went around your neighborhood killing peoples, and you owned a gun, would you give him your gun if he told you to do so?
This is what our government does: shoots peoples dead all over the world then tells us to hand over our guns, telling us gun violence is wrong – for us, not for them.
When the US Government uses violence to solve its problems it teaches others – especially our children – to do the same.
President Obama’s message to our children: “Cheaters win (=Wall Street bailouts) and violence works (Libya, Syria) kids. But don’t you dare cheat in school or use a gun to solve your problems like I do. Do as I say, not as I do.”
“Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, ‘The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so practice and observe whatever they tell you—but not what they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.'” ~ Matthew 23:1-4
“As I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems. I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully through nonviolent action. But they asked, and rightly so, “What about Vietnam?” They asked if our own nation wasn’t using massive doses of violence to solve its problems, to bring about the changes it wanted. Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today: my own government. For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

2013 – “I could never again raise my voice against gun violence in America without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today: my own government. For the sake of those boys and girls at Sandy Hook, for the sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
1967 – “I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today: my own government. For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Even when pressed by the demands of inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government’s policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought within one’s own bosom and in the surrounding world. Moreover, when the issues at hand seem as perplexing as they often do in the case of this dreadful conflict, we are always on the verge of being mesmerized by uncertainty; but we must move on…” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
