America has gone stupid

Are we truly free in the United States?
It sounds like a ridiculous question at first, but hear me out. When people from foreign countries, especially communist countries, think of America they think of freedom, capitalism, and democracy. However consider this:

Parents across the country are being arrested for letting their children play outside. A stay at home mom in Texas was held in jail for 18 hours for allowing her children to ride on scooters while she was watching them from her home.

After an 11-year battle with the state of Oregon, landowner Gary Harrington was found guilty under a 1925 law and sentenced to spend 30 days in jail for collecting rainwater in three “illegal reservoirs” despite the fact that they are on his property.

The war on lemonade stands, traditionally viewed as a quaint example of America’s entrepreneurial spirit, has intensified in recent months with cops slapping parents with fines for letting their kids run “unlicensed” lemonade stands.

Are we truly free? Both as citizens of a nation and a particular state?



Are We Really Free? Do We Even Want to Know?

Are we free to ask if we're really free in America? The short answer to that one is, thankfully: Yes.

Here I am asking the question, after all, and here you are reading (and presumably considering) it. So yeah, at a basic level, yes, we are indeed free to openly ask if we're really free in America.

For now, anyway.

With that established, let's take a moment to consider how such a question is generally received by the typical American and how such inquiry is promoted (or inhibited) by the "experts", "leaders" and countless media tools at the disposal of the American Corporate State.

How does the typical American State-run "school" and Corporate-run pop-culture programmed citizen address the question of freedom in America?

Well, for the most part, they tend to conflate the two. America is freedom to them. America is liberty. The thought of seriously considering, much less testing, America by a standard or definition of freedom and liberty that is apart from America strikes the typical American as something like blasphemy. You just don't do that. You just don't go there here in the "land of the free" and the home of the NSA.

And why?

There are many reasons, but one that we will touch on here is the aforementioned System of systems comprised of "experts", "leaders" and Corporate-owned media mouthpieces filling the air and our minds with the "America is freedom" concept. They parrot, promote, and propagate the notion that the American State is the definer and sustainer of true liberty, true freedom, true justice and pretty much every other truly good thing. In this, they purposefully proclaim and proselytize for the American State as God in practice.

That the Corporate American State provides its obedient, compliant citizens with liberty, freedom, and justice is not to be questioned. it is to be assumed.

Thus, the confused and/or angry looks that come across the faces of most Americans who are asked, "Are Americans really free?"

Are we free to own a home in America?

Are we free to operate businesses or run our economic lives in anything resembling a free market?

Are we free to feel secure in a basic sense of personal privacy?

These things have all been taken away from us - or, better said, we have allowed them to be taken from us - over many years' time, often (and ironically) in the name of preserving our freedom, liberty, justice, and even privacy. Our apathy, laziness and happy compliance with the pro-Corporate State programming in which we've been immersed has taken a great toll. It has led us far down a very dark path.

And that path has not ended.

We have not yet arrived at its destination, though we are closing fast.

Few things can so clearly display our profound detachment from any sense of true liberty and freedom as will this weekend's All-American celebrations of "independence", "liberty" and "freedom".

Tomorrow the air will be filled with things like "pledges of allegiance" to the "indivisible" American Corporate State on, of all things, Independance Day.

Tomorrow we will once again be encouraged at every turn to sing and cheer about our freedom and liberty...all while true freedom and true liberty is being stripped away on every front at an ever-increasing pace, leading us ever-closer to a very particular and purposeful State-dependent destination.

So while we have the opportunity on this special weekend, let's take the time to consider and encourage others to consider the questions: Are we really free? What is freedom? From where (or Whom) does true freedom come?

From there, many important thoughts, questions, conversations and, Lord willing, currently impossible-seeming positive changes are just waiting to be born...if we will only be the "brave Americans" we sing about so often.

Do we want our children and grandchildren to have true freedom? Do we want them to know true liberty? Do we want them to have real privacy and maybe even be able to actually own a home if they work hard for it?

Or do we just want them to pretend to be free?

Just as we are being encouraged to continue doing this weekend (and every other).

May God grace His people with the desire and opportunity to stand and apply His Word as the only basis upon which true liberty, freedom, justice and prosperity can be understood and pursued anywhere at any time in His creation.
