Will Americans lose their freedom, or will we give it away like sheep?

Our freedoms and abilities to live and dream of a better life are being stolen from us as the government buys and takes control of companies. The government is ushered on like a hero draped in gold, while its really the wolf stealing our life and replacing them with their own Ideas. The government is in the process of taking control of the internet, Obama has the power now to turn OFF the internet if he can show speculation of a internet attack on the US. The government also has the right to OVERRIDE ANY state law it feels fit. In California they raided a medical Marijuana facility that was State Approved. They forced the Automakers to accept the UAW retirement package, doesn't bankrupt mean you have no money to pay, so that really means the government is buying the UAW. The UAW was the leading cause of the US automaker demise (stupidity on the auto maker's was the runner up). One of our new dictators new bills passed was the ability to essentially turn off the internet in the US. Wait, isn't that alot like the middle east, the control of something the PEOPLE OWN, not the government.

Will we be one VOICE together, or a scattered crowd, lost?

WE THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE. 

Why are Americans so eager and willing to give their precious "freedom" away? 

In other words... the same people who spout off about how great America is--- cause we're FREE-- are they same people who support things like the Patriot Act, or who voted for Bushey, or want to get rid of Roe vs. Wade... cause God knows we need the GOVERNMENT to tell us what to do with our bodies!!! You get the picture...

Have Americans given up too much of their freedom?

I'm not even sure I should ask this, because I can see it becomming pretty heated. I hope we can all be respectful! But the last line of the fb status I posted in my other post: "The terrorists won a long time ago & this is beginning to look a lot like a communist regime (papers please)." got me to thinking. Partly because I've seen other statuses and comments to this effect lately too. So, have Americans - or maybe I should expand that to include the whole western world - given up too many of their freedoms and rights in the interest of safety? Have we as westerners become paranoid to the extent that we are willing to give up our civil liberties for some sense of security? Have the terrorists actually won, by causing us to live in fear, constantly looking over our shoulders? 

I'm not going to give my opinion on this one right now, mainly because I'm not sure what it is. I do hear about things and think, " wow, that seems a little paranoid to me" or that the government is going too far. But, I'm not an American. I didn't live through 9/11 in the same sense that Americans did. So my perspective on it is probably different, as an outsider. Not saying I'm only interested in what Americans have to say about it though!

What they didn't tell you in school

In school you were taught that the Government has three branches, the Legislative branch, the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch. The Legislative branch is the Congress and they make the laws. The Executive branch is the President, who runs the daily business of government. The Judicial branch is the Courts who interpret the law and determine of laws are constitutional. These are the three branches of government you were taught in the government-controlled schools. But there is a fourth branch of government, and that's the People.

 People before Lawyers Some would argue that the People are not a branch of the Government. They would argue that we have a government that is of the People, by the People, and for the People. They would argue that through voting that the Government represents the People and that the Government is the People. In theory, and in an ideal world, this would be true. And for the most part it is true. But there are time when the Government does not represent the People and that the interests of the Government are not the interests of the People. There are times when the People have to assert their will directly and overrule the Government and assert the supremacy of the will of the People over the will of the Government.
