MEN OF PEACE
"I don't know how to save the world. I don't have the answers or The Answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all Earth's inhabitants, none of us will survive - nor will we deserve to." Leonard Peltier

America has abandoned her principles

America has abandoned her principles

“But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.” (1 Samuel 8: 6-7)

Americawas founded upon commonly held principles of right and wrong enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. Further, individuals are endowed by God with “certain unalienable rights” that cannot be taken, changed or infringed upon by man or government. Despite the musing of some who argue these principles and rights are inherent in man's consciousness, most of our Founding Fathers considered the revelation of God by His Spirit in the pages of the Bible to be the source of these principles and their incorporation into our government and its laws.

Recognizing the freedom contained in the Ten Commandments, those who desire to destroy America and enslave its citizens have done so by creating dependency upon the federal government for everything! From retirement, to medical insurance, to food entitlements and unemployment income, the federal government has virtually replaced God in being the provider for most Americans. A vast majority of Americans depend on the government for some portion of their monthly income and many rely totally on a government check each month to buy food or pay rent and utilities. Although God gave his people these ten laws in order for them to live peacefully and in prosperity, most of us have supplanted God with the federal government.

The Founders knew that with biblical principles enshrined in the Ten Commandments would serve to the individual such that he or she could be self-regulating, diminishing the need for an abundance of laws and regulations emanating from the federal or the state government. Using God’s ordinances, the Founders created a government structure that gave Americans freedom from governmental interference and more opportunity to attain wealth and provision for their families. Freedom encourages individual productivity and prosperity which in turn drove charitable giving to those less fortunate. The resultant wealth gave Americans the ability to be more generous toward others than were the people of any other nation.

However, since the turn of the twentieth century, the influence of European enlightenment and the Progressive movement these biblical principles have been augmented by layers of governmental red tape. The principles upon which our nation was founded have been gradually eroded by forces of change inside and outside our country. The continual growth of government regulation and entitlements has resulted in heavy taxations on American citizens throwing cold water on the flames of prosperity across the land. The introduction of labor unions and trade legislation that moved most of America’s industry overseas has resulted in underemployment of resources and the stifling of productivity. Welfare programs, social security, and other government entitlements have increased the need for the collection of more taxes putting pressure on the middle class to pay for the programs for the poor. What God and the Founders did to bring people together, the Progressive movement and a growing government has undone driving people apart across an economic divide that grows wider with each passing year. Could this trend have its roots in the supernatural? Perhaps!

The freedom offered by God through His commandments is slowly eroding from all levels of society. Since the decision to remove prayer from the public school classroom, the decline of American freedom has accelerated and moral fiber of our country is hanging by a thread. For the first time in history, the current generation is less well off financially than were their parents. Despite huge spending on education and an unprecedented proliferation of educational opportunities, our American literacy has continuously declined over the last forty years! Perhaps God is trying to tell us that decision to appease Madeline O’Hair was ill advised and it appears that it signaled the beginning of the end of this once great country.

The dissipation of God’s word to from the public square is a reflection of how God has faded from the lives of most Americans. Over time, the memory of God’s boundaries is overshadowed by what secular society has to offer leaving the individual at the mercy of what feels good. The cry of the seventies, “Love the one your with,” was a reflection of the moral decay that had set into the hearts of the generation that now finds itself leading the governments and boardrooms of the world. The Baby Boomer’s “Free Love,” experience in the wake of removing God from the classroom has resulted in generation whose majority has no relationship with God and they have raised a generation of children in which less than ten percent have a heart for the Bible and a love for Jesus Christ. The result Paul says, “(The American people) having lost all sensitivity (to sin), they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.” Without a constant connection to God’s word and the love of Jesus Christ virtually an entire generation has been lost.

In order to “put the genie back in the bottle,” our society must repent and turn back to God’s word and make it the primary driver in our lives. Neither the government nor secular law can control societal behavior. Without a moral foundation rooted in the Ten Commandments and a deep heart-felt love for Jesus Christ individuals will not to live in complete harmony with one another. Our sinful nature makes doing what is pleasing to us at the expense of others too much of a temptation to resist. Without the discipline of our Heavenly Father, we will do what pleases us no matter how it affects our neighbors. One need only to look at our overcrowded prisons to see that self-governance, even with the help of laws and statutes, is an unsustainable solution in a free society.

God told us in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” God is telling his followers that they must be the catalyst for a return of freedom from sin and an over-bearing government. The solution lies in the hearts of Christians. We must start with our own personal relationships with God. We must no longer look like the rest of society and turn away from sin and wickedness humbly asking God through Jesus Christ for forgiveness. From the place of forgiveness we must repent (turn around) and lead a new life that is centered completely on God’s word and not our own sinful desires. It will be difficult at first and you will stumble, but God will see your heart and he will forgive you again if you ask. Over time, it will become easier to overcome past habits.

It took a long time from when the Founders established the country on Christian principles to where we find ourselves on the precipice of socialism or worse. God is a restorer but we have to make the first move. He has not moved it is us who have chosen to go our own way.
