Give Charles Schumer this
" . . . there are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies - we must redouble those efforts immediately."
Give Charles Schumer this. He is nothing if not shameless. The Tea Party bothers him because it causes people to question the wonderfulness of big government. He can use government agencies to harass them and take them down.
So why not?
I have to say, the Tea Party that exists in his alternate universe sounds pretty confused. They shout at him about things they actually like. They listen to “plutocrats” who actually oppose their interests. They complain about trial lawyers and they don’t even know any trial lawyers!
But when you really listen to Schumer, you realize he holds Tea Party members in contempt. He thinks they’re stupid. He thinks they “mouth Rush Limbaugh and Fox News talking points” and don’t really know anything about the issues they’re talking about. They’re just “government haters.”
So in Schumer’s world, these Tea Party people represent such a problem, it behooves Democrats to use the power of government to do something about it. That whole First Amendment thing? Well! Democrats never thought it would be used by people like this!
Check out this passage from the text of Schumer’s prepared remarks:http://www.scribd.com/doc/201788576/The-Rise-and-Potential-Fall-of-the-Tea-Party
One of the great advantages the Tea Party has is the huge holes in our campaign finance laws created this ill-advised decision. Obviously, the Tea Party elites gained extraordinary influence by being able to funnel millions of dollars intocampaigns with ads that distort the truth and attack government.
This is not the place for a broad discussion of this issue, and it is clear that we will not pass anything legislatively as long as the House of Representatives is in Republican control, but there are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies - we must redouble those efforts immediately.
Tea Party members realize importance of this issue. In the recent budget negotiations House Republicans nearly blew up the entire agreement because we would not put in the bill a provision that would prevent the IRS from moving forward and administratively closing some of the CitizensUnited loopholes.
This is extraordinary. A sitting United States senator is openly discussing how the federal government can use its power to destroy a movement of citizens participating in the political process. And his problem with them? They criticize government.
Even if Schumer’s characterization of Tea Party members was correct, which of course it is not, how is it not still just as serious an outrage that he proposes to use the harassing power of government agencies to silence them?
I realize the lamestream media agree with Schumer’s politics and disagree with the Tea Party’s, but do they find nothing troubling about an elected official proposing to use the power of the federal government in this way? Really? Nothing at all?the vidoe was termanated just showing the truth they wish to with hold from the people
