Remember when the Obama Administration fudged the unemployment rate, using an inexplicable one-time anomaly, to get the unemployment rate under 8 percent just in time for the 2012 election?

Hey, if you can manipulate numbers for one political purpose, you can manipulate them for another purpose. The Democrats’ pre-Obama Care claim that there were 48 million uninsured people in this country came from Census data. So you’d think they’d eagerly await the 2020 Census, which will surely show that Obama Care has slashed that number down to a small fraction of its former self.

  The Census Bureau, the authoritative source of health insurance data for more than three decades, is changing its annual survey so thoroughly that it will be difficult to measure the effects of President Obama’s health care law in the next report, due this fall, census officials said.

  The changes are intended to improve the accuracy of the survey, being conducted this month in interviews with tens of thousands of households around the country. But the new questions are so different that the findings will not be comparable, the officials said.

An internal Census Bureau document said that the new questionnaire included a “total revision to health insurance questions” and, in a test last year, produced lower estimates of the uninsured. Thus, officials said, it will be difficult to say how much of any change is attributable to the Affordable Care Act and how much to the use of a new survey instrument.

They know perfectly well that the majority of those who signed up for Obama Care were already insured before the lost their insurance because of Obama Care. That means they know perfectly well that an accurate reading in the new Census will not show they've seriously slashed the number of uninsured. Instead, it will show they messed up people’s health insurance and caused all the other problems we've discussed here ad infinitum without accomplishing anything whatsoever in the bargain.

Thanks to the changes in the way they’re asking the question, no one will have any idea how the numbers have changed because an apples-to-apples comparison will be impossible.

So you know how we keep waiting to find out how many of these new enrollees were previously unemployed? And what the breakdown is of young-to-old and healthy-to-sick? And how they keep telling us they have no idea?

They’re never going to have any idea. They’re going to stop asking the questions that would give them the answers.

But we can make a pretty reasonable guess: This whole thing is every bit the disaster we've always thought it was going to be, and they’re now changing the way they collect data in the hope we’ll never be able to prove it.
