"I don't know how to save the world. I don't have the answers or The Answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. Rape is the only crime where the victim becomes the accused

Public Bathroom Fake Rape Experiment Highlights Need For Change

by Sophie McAdam

It´s not easy to watch. It´s controversial. But by the end, you´ll understand exactly why it´s needed. Please share this powerful video!

What would you do if you heard a woman being raped in a public toilet? Surely it´s a no-brainer. You´d help, right? Hmmm…maybe you wouldn´t. This social experiment by performance artist Fousey is controversial and difficult to watch at times, but its shock value is absolutely necessary to change attitudes surrounding sexual violence in our society.

Currently there is a widespread movement in colleges across the USA (and beyond) to take rape seriously. It´s well overdue. It seems bizarre that in the 21st century this kind of pressure is still needed, but it is- just look at the slut shaming phenomenon, or think about how the tragic girl gang-raped by high school football stars in Steubenville was smeared by the whole community: she was drunk, and therefore asking for it.

As Fousey points out on his Youtube channel: Rape is the only crime where the victim becomes the accused.” He also notes that 84% of women know their rapists. Think about that for a second. It means that most men who have forced themselves on an unwilling woman are normal men: they are friends, they are trusted, they are respected. They are doctors, teachers, firemen. Fousey calls this a “culture of rape”, and his intention (no matter how uncomfortable you feel watching this video) is very clear:

Everyone around me advised me to not do this video, the activist artist admits in his video summary. Not because they didn’t believe in my vision, but because of how taboo society has made the topic of rape and sexual assault.

He continues: “This project was made with the best intentions and pure heart. I know it will mean something different to us all and am happy to have opened up a well needed conversation. If I have offended anyone in my execution, please know that it was not out of ill intentions and I do sincerely apologize. I have been given a responsibility with this YouTube platform of mine and always told myself to stay true and progress towards change.”

Bear that statement in mind as you watch. Please also bear in mind that nobody said all men are rapists, because clearly they´re not. The point is, those who have taken advantage of a crying drunk girl and never given it a second thought are far too many.  It´s simple: until we change the hearts and minds of the next generation of boys, until we stop blaming the victim and understand the trauma involved in what he thought was just a ´bit of fun´,   then feminism will still be needed. Please share Fousey´s social experiment if you agree we need change.
