Democrat politicians are notorious for living by the credo, “Never let a crisis go to waste!” Making political hay during times of national crisis is written into the DNA of most Democrat politicians, including that of our 44th president, Barack Hussein Obama. True enough, politics is a rough and tough business, best avoided by those who blanch at the sight of blood. Still, most Americans would expect even the most hardened politician to balk at the notion of exploiting the death of a 17-year-old African-American boy for raw political advantage. Yet that is exactly the road President Obama is pursuing on the heels of the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin. As reported: President Obama called on the nation to honor Trayvon Martin a day after George Zimmerman was acquitted of his murder by asking “ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence.” His comments came as family members of Zimmerman and Martin, as well as pundits, celebrities, and court observers had strong reactions to Saturday’s not guilty verdict, with those reactions taking various forms — from joy and outrage to Shakespearean references and calls for peace. “I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities,” Obama said in a statement on Sunday. “We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.” So, Americans can honor Trayvon Martin by challenging the constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to own weapons as provided for in the 2nd Amendment? Just what the hell does gun ownership by decent citizens have to do with the tragic slaying of Trayvon Martin, said slaying determined NOT to be a criminal act by a properly seated jury in a court of law?
